Baseball Brings People Together

Recently, I have realized that baseball is not only a sport, but something that helps people connect and become friends with others.
This week, I became a peer-mentor at a camp in Howard County. The kids in this camp have special needs. When I walked in the classroom, a kid named William welcomed me into the class. He was wearing some Orioles gear, so I said that I was a huge Orioles fan. Immediately, we started talking about the Orioles, the players, and more. William knew everything about the Orioles. He knew everything about every player.
William noticed that I was wearing a Manny Machado t-shirt. I told him that my favorite player is Manny and that I even got to meet Manny at Spring Training in Sarasota, Florida.
During a break, I saw William drawing baseball pictures. We talked about the All Star Game, the Orioles, and more. William told me that Trey Mancini was his favorite player on the Orioles. His dream is to meet Trey or any of the Orioles.
Later that day, I noticed two pictures on my desk. One of Manny Machado with a Padres jersey on, and one with an Orioles jersey on. It was a nice surprise.

I love the pictures and I look forward to talking to William about baseball next week. It's really cool how two people who knew nothing about each other before became friends in a short amount of time after talking about baseball.
