An Important day in Baseball!

On this day, baseball fans celebrate a very important person who changed baseball forever. On April 15, 1947, Jackie Robinson became the first African-American to play in Major League Baseball.

I learned a lot about Jackie Robinson when I read his daughter Sharon Robinson's book, The Hero Two Doors Down. I would recommend this book because it is a really good book. It taught me that Jackie Robinson is an important person but not just in baseball.

Robinson's number is retired meaning no one can wear it but, on April 15 each season, every player in the Major Leagues wears Robinson's number 42.

For two of my softball teams, I chose and got number 42 so I am wearing that today.

Now if you try hard enough anyone can play in the MLB. He is very important. A famous quote from Jackie Robinson is "A life is not important except in the impact it has on other lives".

He definitely had a great impact on other lives. Can you imagine when people would yell at you mean and rude comments just because the color of your skin? But Robinson was super brave to play in that atmosphere. Even some fans of his team, the Brooklyn Dodgers, would yell the rude comments. Jackie is a hero so that's why he has his own day. So, baseball fans can celebrate him and what he has done for baseball.

I am looking forward to seeing the players wearing #42 today to honor Jackie Robinson.
