One player broke barriers, another was a fantastic pitcher, and the other had his own special nickname "Mr. Cub". Those players are Jackie Robinson, Nolan Ryan, and Ernie Banks. I guess if you where born on January 31, you're sure to become a really fantastic baseball player.
Jackie Robinson is a game-changer not just on the field but he changed a real life problem. He was very brave to stick up for his rights and what he believed in. A famous quote from Jackie is "A life is not important except in the impact it has on other lives". He made a huge impact in baseball and in the world.
Nolan Ryan is a hall-of-fame pitcher and has a great nickname as well, The Ryan Express. He turned 70 today. In 1983, Ryan set a record with 3,509 career strikeouts. Ryan has played for many teams including, the Mets, Angels, Astros, and Rangers. A famous quote from Ryan is, "Enjoying success requires the ability to adapt. Only by being open to change will you have a true opportunity to get the most from your talent".
Ernie Banks was a star player for the Cubs. He is a hall-of-fame 1st baseman. In a 1969 Chicago Sun-Times fan poll, he was voted the “Greatest Cub Ever.” A famous quote from Ernie is, "Work? I never worked a day in my life. I always loved what I was doing, had a passion for it".
I have something in common with Ernie, I have always had a passion for the game of baseball too! So, all 3 of these players are game changers on and off the field!
